16/12/2021: 3 lighthearted romance manga that have been completed recently

I hate it when series stop getting scanlated halfway because they remind me of all of my personal relationships that ended without any sense of closure. TMI but here's some manga that gave me the exact opposite feeling and that you might enjoy as well!

1) I want your mother to be with me

OK the title sounds like a very adult series that features extramarital affairs but it’s actually got nothing to do with infidelity! This is about a young man who’s failed and given up n taking the civil servant exam and is languishing in part-time work at a home goods store. He falls in love with his coworker, a beautiful and young widow with a son, and clumsily confesses his feelings without much care for her situation and is quickly rebuffed because he’s not mature enough. This gets him to pull up his socks so that he not only resumes working towards his original career aspirations but also learns what it means to be a father/husband and not just a boyfriend, and eventually manages to win her over.

2) Girlfriend who absolutely doesn’t want to take a bath vs boyfriend who absolutely wants her to take a bath

This, on the other hand, is a title that tells you exactly what the story is about. Hina and her boyfriend live together but she hates taking a bath so her boyfriend has to think of all kinds of clever ways to coax or trick her into taking a bath. It’s a very cute and innocent romance story without any sexual content! The thing is, if she hates taking a bath, why doesn’t she just take a shower and be done with it??? If you like gaming, then shouldn't you get clean so it feels more comfortable?

3) The story of an engaged couple that doesn’t get along

Here’s another title that explains the story very well. The main characters are a young man and woman from very wealthy families (as in they own companies and have maids in French maid uniforms and butlers and stuff) whose parents arrange their marriage. Naturally, they don’t get along with each other and get up to the usual tsundere antics. This series isn’t very long and each chapter is short and sweet, so don’t expect dramatic character development. It’s more of a series of amusing incidents that occur, with one shift in attitude somewhere in the middle, and then a few fast events that tie up the story. (Presumably, the author got notice that the serialization would end so he wrapped up the story nicely.)

Bonus: romance manga that are updating consistently

4) Please Go Home, Akutsu-san!

A delinquent girl takes over the home of her gofer, who lives on his own in a rented apartment. At first, she just bosses him around and is actually just a bully. However, she starts to see his merits, and vice versa, to the point that they're basically a couple and the apartment becomes their "love nest" instead of her hangout so it becomes a tsundere series. The art is only so-so but it’s extremely cute and funny.

5) Hinminchojin Kamenashi kun

This is more of a comedy story than a romance but there’s a little bit. The daughter of a very rich family has a crush on her classmate, Kamenashi, who’s very poor and super capable. He’s outstanding at sports and studies and his has a good character, but his family is so poor that they have to scavenge leftovers from the trash and eat bread crusts and he has terrible luck, being prone to accidents on the way to school. There’s no real development or plot but it’s a lot of fun to see them and their schoolmates get up to nonsense. The series had a 9-month break but has been updating somewhat consistently for the past 2 months.

Enjoy!
