There are few things worse than having a manga you’re following be stopped because the scanlators can no longer be arsed to continue working on the series. OK, there are actually many things worse (like studying Company Law, for one) but it’s definitely high on the list of things that constitute a royal pain in the butt! Here are some series that are updated at least somewhat regularly so you won’t have to wait for ages between updates. We’ve included more manga from a wide range of genres so there’s something you’ll like, but we may end up re-recommending them in later publications!
1) Hatarakanai Futari (810, weekly, slice of life / comedy) – each weekly chapter of this wonderful 4-koma (4 vertical panels) comic consists of 1-2-page stories about the (mis)adventures of a pair of NEET siblings as they play with their friends (both gainfully employed but no better adjusted to society) and get on their mother’s nerves. Very heart-warming and “healing”.

2) Seitokai Yakuindomo (599, weekly, school / slice of life / comedy) – somewhat erratic but it appears that the scanlation group has gotten their butt in gear to bring us weekly updates of a high school student council consisting of a lone boy and his three girl colleagues. They get up to antics, mostly involving sexual innuendoes and dirty jokes, but it’s all SFW, good-natured fun.

3) Neko no Otera no Chion-san (55, weekly-monthly, school / slice of life) – a city boy moves to live with his older cousin (on whom he has a crush) in the countryside where he starts school.

4) My Spl/it Little Sister (40, monthly batches, comedy / slice of life) – a tsundere sister suddenly meets her clone, who’s super attached to her brother! Very cute.

5) Maid-san wa taberu Dake (22, erratic but frequent, slice of life) – a Japanese maid returns to Japan from England and enjoys pastries and small pleasure – EXTREMELY CUTE

6) It’s Fun Having a 300,000 Yen a Month Job Welcoming Home an Onee-san Who DOesn’t Find Meaning in a Job that Pays Her 500,000 Yen a Month (6, weekly in month-batches, slice of life / romance? / comedy) – it is what it is. Quite cute.

7) Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru (85, weekly, school / romance / comedy) – a senpai and kouhai are the only members of the school’s shogi club and they keep playing matches against each other, and the kouhai loves his senpai but has stubbornly insisted on not confessing before he’s beaten her in a match, fair and square, but the senpai is a master of shogi! Weekly updates.

8) Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san (138, weekly, school / romance / comedy) – middle schooler Nishikata and Takagi keep playing “games” but Takagi is too good and always teases Nishikata. VERY cute.

9) Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san (167, weekly, school / romance / comedy) – continuation where they’ve gotten married and have a daughter, a new victim of her parents’ teasing (not that Nishikata has an easier time, though).

10) Sousei no Taiga (60, weekly but somewhat erratic, action / historical) – action-adventure where Japanese university students are transported back to prehistoric times where they get embroiled in battles for survival and the conflict between homo sapiens and the Neanderthals. Quite exciting, but minus points because the writer doesn’t seem to like the girl I like.

11) Sengoku Komachi Kurou Tan (36, weekly to monthly, action / historical) – another time-travelling adventure where a high school girl who’s an expert in medieval engineering and agriculture gets transported back to the Sengoku era, where she helps her favourite warlord preserve his power with her keen present-day knowledge. EXTREMELY lovable MC and great battle sequences, but also very good explanations of scientific principles and historical information.

12) Q.E.D. iff (30, monthly, mystery) – teenage detective and his classmate/friend go on adventures to solve complex mysteries using science/math/logic; VERY complex mysteries and very, very, very clear explanations for the “trick”. Super good series. Also a very cute pairing of MCs. Occasionally heartfelt.

13) Nanba MG5 (108, monthly, action / comedy / school) – a badass delinquent disguises himself as a nerd so he can go to a normal school (because his family consists of famous delinquents who expect him to continue being a delinquent) but he gets comedically embroiled in typical brawls and conflicts. Very well-drawn and immensely funny.

14) My Home Hero (80, weekly, mystery / thriller) – a man unintentionally kills his daughter’s abusive boyfriend in a fight and gets drawn into a gang syndicate’s conspiracy. Very exciting mind games and plotting.

15) Peerless Dad (155, weekly, action / martial arts / historical) – Korean manhwa in the vein of Chinese kung fu stories about a super strong widower who seeks a peaceful life in a menial position as a gate guard, to be with his children, but gets called to perform special missions.

16) How to Fight (64, weekly, action / school) – a weakling finds a YouTube channel that teaches him to fight and he starts a YouTube channel where he fights strong people. Not sure about the accuracy but the fight scenes are quite exciting.
